Groundbreaking Set for St. Charles Parish

Construction is set to begin on the new church for St. Charles Catholic Parish, located at 313 Circle Drive in Hartland. The church will accommodate a growing congregation and school, and will ensure a spiritual home and worship space for future generations. Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki will attend the historic groundbreaking ceremony, and will be the first to put the shovel in the ground. The ceremony will start at 12:15pm on June 13 after the 11:00am Mass, and will be held on the northeast corner of the parish grounds.

As the fifth largest parish in the Archdiocese, church leaders did a feasibility study years ago and recognized that more space would be needed to fully support the surrounding Hartland area. “Our vision is to expand and upgrade our parish in a way that will best serve our parish and community,” stated St. Charles Pastor Fr. Ken Omernick. “We feel we are building a new traditional church that will make our parish and Hartland community proud.”

Leading the project are Corporate Contractors Inc (CCI) as construction manager and Zimmerman Architectural Studios as architect. Working together, they are creating a beautifully planned worship space that will help nourish the faith life of Hartland and the surrounding area.

Several highlights of the project include:

  • Church seating capacity will increase to 1,000 (currently 750), with the option to further expand in the future.
  • Creation of a dedicated Eucharistic Adoration Chapel available for prayer 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Dedicated child care space for use during Masses, parish meetings, and events.
  • Energy efficient upgrades.

The goal is to build a church that is both timeless and traditional in design and provides space for continued growth. The existing church will remain operational throughout the construction process, allowing a seamless transition to the new worship space.

The first stage of the parish expansion project was completed in 2017 for a growing school that included the addition of six multi-purpose classrooms and workrooms, including a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) classroom and a music/choir room.
