Hidden Creek Estates Featured in Forbes and Built for Connection

When a completed project receives national attention, it is exciting to see the vision, collaboration, and craftsmanship behind it recognized. Hidden Creek Estates was recently featured in Forbes for its distinctive blend of hospitality, sustainability, historic preservation, and a connection to nature.

At CCI, we are proud to have helped transform this remarkable northern Illinois property into a destination designed for gathering, celebrating, and creating lasting memories.

Creating a Destination Unlike Any Other

Nestled on 77 scenic acres in northern Illinois, Hidden Creek Estates was designed to be more than an event venue or getaway. The property offers guests the chance to slow down, reconnect with nature, and spend meaningful time with family and friends.

From its renovated barn and wine bar to its expanded event venue and distinctive Wine Barrel Homes, every aspect of the property reflects thoughtful planning, meticulous attention to detail, and the owners’ vision of Dude and Kerry Frank.

Transforming and Expanding Hidden Creek

CCI’s work at Hidden Creek began with the renovation of an existing barn, transforming it into an event venue, restaurant, and wine bar. The project preserved the building’s rustic character while adding the infrastructure and amenities required for modern hospitality operations.

Improvements included new electrical and sewer services, restrooms, a wine bar and restaurant area, flexible event space, and an exterior deck for outdoor dining and gatherings.

Following the success of the original renovation, CCI constructed a new 4,700-square-foot addition to increase the venue’s capacity and flexibility. The upper level features a new event hall linked to the existing venue by an operable partition wall, allowing the spaces to operate separately or combine into a single, larger gathering area.

The addition also introduced a new bar, restrooms, storage areas, and a lower-level speakeasy-style entertainment space that connects directly to the existing restaurant and wine bar.

“The renovation and addition gave Hidden Creek the infrastructure, flexibility, and amenities needed to support larger events while preserving the character that makes the property so special.”

— Jose Carbajal, CCI Project Manager

Creating a Memorable Arrival and Outdoor Experience

CCI’s work extended beyond the venue to include significant exterior and site improvements.

A new signature entrance was constructed with structural steel framing, stone-clad columns, and illuminated Hidden Creek signage, creating a distinctive sense of arrival. A new spiral staircase also provides direct access between the wine bar and restaurant area and the barn deck.

To accommodate the venue’s growing capacity, two new parking areas were added to increase capacity and improve traffic flow. Landscaped berms with native grasses were incorporated around the parking areas to reduce vehicle light and noise while complementing the site’s natural character. A new stormwater retention basin was also installed to manage runoff from the expanded parking area and improve overall drainage.

Balancing Construction and Conservation

One of the most distinctive features of Hidden Creek Estates is its commitment to environmental stewardship.

The property owners have worked to restore native habitats, preserve historic oak trees, support pollinator populations, and protect open spaces across the site. As construction and development progressed, preserving the land’s character remained a priority.

Native plantings, landscaped berms, stormwater management improvements, and thoughtful site planning demonstrate how development and conservation can work together to create meaningful places that serve people and the environment.

Preserving History Through Design

Throughout Hidden Creek Estates, guests encounter reclaimed architectural elements, antique furnishings, stained glass, historic doors, and thoughtfully repurposed materials. These details lend the property a sense of authenticity that feels collected over time rather than newly created.

The renovated barn is a strong example of adaptive reuse. Although the building was extensively updated to support contemporary hospitality and event operations, it still honors its agricultural roots and original rustic character.

Spaces Designed for Connection

Whether guests are attending a wedding, sharing a meal, enjoying a wine tasting, participating in a corporate retreat, or spending a weekend away, Hidden Creek Estates is centered on connection.

The restaurant, wine bar, event halls, speakeasy, outdoor deck, terraces, walking trails, pond views, and guest accommodations combine to create memorable experiences for visitors.

A Project Built Through Collaboration

Projects of this scope depend on close collaboration among owners, designers, project managers, skilled tradespeople, subcontractors, and construction professionals. At Hidden Creek Estates, that collaboration grew from a shared passion for the property and its potential.

CCI Project Manager Pete Woodkey credits Dude and Kerry Frank’s determination, involvement, and commitment to the project team as major factors in the project’s success. That working relationship ultimately became a lasting friendship.

“The reason we had so much success was the collaboration between CCI and the Franks. When you share the same passion for a project, and the owners are just as invested in your success as you are, it creates something special. I couldn’t be prouder of what Dude and Kerry have accomplished or more pleased to see their vision recognized by Forbes.”

— Pete Woodkey, CCI Project Manager

National Recognition for a Remarkable Destination

CCI congratulates Dude, Kerry Frank, and the entire Hidden Creek Estates team on this well-deserved national recognition.

There is no greater reward than seeing a completed project become a place where people gather, celebrate, and make lasting memories. We are proud of the many improvements CCI has completed across the property, and even prouder of the relationships built along the way.
