JANESVILLE (WKOW) — The remodeling of a four unit property on Main Street known as Block 42 represents a beginning.
“We don’t consider ourselves property developers, we see ourselves as community benefactors and that’s really what we want to be,” millionaire philanthropist Quint Studer tells 27 News as he walks through the gutted structure.
Janesville will be the latest benefactor of Studer’s generosity, because of his long history here.
He worked his way up to become an executive at Mercy Hospital through the 1970s and 80s while he and wife Rishy raised three of their five children along the way.
During that time the Studer’s had already seen General Motors move jobs to Indiana and elsewhere.
“Of course you feel sad, but at the time, we didn’t really have the financial means to do much more than feel sad,” explained Studer.
But as the city lost GM altogether, financial means became less and less of an issue for Studer.
In 2015, he sold his private health care consulting company – Studer Group – for $325 million.
He is now focusing his time and money on revitalizing the city where six of his grandchildren call home.
