Powerhouse Pedestrian Bridge Installation

For Immediate Release: May, 31, 2019

Beloit College Powerhouse pedestrian bridge to be installed next week

The pedestrian bridge for Beloit College’s award-winning student union and recreation center, The Powerhouse, will be installed beginning on Monday, June 3rd. The work will close a portion of Pleasant Street and the Riverside Corridor Trail sidewalks until Wednesday. Most of the heavy lifting and best views will occur on Tuesday, June 4 between approximately noon and 3 p.m. In the morning, four semi-trucks will arrive from Alexandria, MN., three carrying bridge sections and one hauling miscellaneous pieces and decking. Cranes will also be erected.

At approximately 12 p.m., crews will begin to assemble the bridge. A safe viewing area for the public has been established in the upper Sports Center Parking lot at Beloit College, 845 Pleasant Ave. The viewing area is only accessible through the Sports Center building. Visitors are allowed to park in the Aldrich Hall Parking Lot (600 Woodward Ave.) and walk to the Sports Center. The bridge will be inaccessible to the public until a later date.

The Powerhouse repurposes the decommissioned Blackhawk Generating Station on the Rock River into a 120,000-square-foot student union and recreation center slated to open later this year.
