With more people moving into the area, St. Charles Catholic Parish in Hartland realized it too had to grow.
Construction began in April on the new church at 313 Circle Drive, which is scheduled to be completed in November 2022.
It’s being built on the same property as the existing church, in the parking lot, right by the existing church.
“The Lake Country area is a very vibrant area for people to relocate,” said Mike Cattani, facilities manager at St. Charles. “The nice thing about it is there are more subdivisions going up. We have hit our capacity at our church.”
The current church holds 750 people while the new structure will hold 1,000. Cattani said the goal is to build a church that is both timeless and traditional in design and provides space for continued growth.
“What Father Ken (Omernick) wants to do is he wants to go with the old Italian churches you would see to bring back the old realm of Catholicism,” Cattani said. “The church is going to have an Italian look.”
It will also feature a dedicated Eucharistic Adoration Chapel that will be available for prayer 24 hours a day, seven days a week and a dedicated child care space for use during Masses, parish meetings and events. There will also be energy-efficient upgrades.
